Here it is and with pictures too!!! This is about 20 times smaller than the others I have done which I think for me will be a major benefit. Most of my other attempts at this ended up being HUGE (needed a 2″ binder) This one uses a 1″ binder and there is a ton of room so spare so I can add things later on if I’d like.

Here are the steps I took to create my binder…

1. I found a 3-ring binder that I really liked. I chose to use a one with a nice pattern that would look nice in my kitchen since that is where I typically keep it. Here is the pattern that I used (I found this one at Target)…

2. I then decided on what tabs/categories I would need to include. I used plain white tabbed dividers that had erasable tabs so should I choose to change my categories later on, I can do so without needing to get new tabs. A bonus to using these instead of the tabs that you can insert the little pieces of paper into, is that you don’t have those little labels being lost ; mine are always falling out and getting lost.

3. Cleaning Tab : I have several of my cleaning lists under here and before each task, I inserted a circle (you can just boxes too if you’d like) for me to fill in once I have completed this task. These are the lists I have…Daily Cleaning List, Weekly Cleaning List, Monthly Cleaning List, Spring/Fall Cleaning.

4. Mike/Mandie Tab : Here I will keep a school calendar for Mike, anything relating to upcoming events at our church, a holiday list for Mike’s work, upcoming Foster Care events, etc.

5. Carter Tab : Here I will keep a school calendar for Carter, his monthly school Bible verse list, monthly theme list for school, treat schedule, list of his classmates, PTF information, master chore list, etc.

6. Misc. Lists Tab : This is for my birthday/anniversary lists, basement inventory, addresses of friends and family, list of our favorite places to go for day trips (along with their addresses, hours of operation, costs), etc.

7. Financial Tab : Here I have a list of our typical monthly bills, logins and passwords for the accounts that we pay online, and a sheet that lists the due dates and method of payments for each of our monthly bills. I added this because Mike is going to be taking over this responsibility in Sept. and I wanted to have everything down so he can have something to reference back to should he need it.

As I said before, I did things this way because in the past, I have focused too much on putting it together and made it so involved that I ended up not using it. This one is a great size and simple so that if I do decide to make some changes, I can do it easily without feeling the need to completely overhaul the entire thing. I hope this helps!

OK so I know I never posted the original layout even though I said I would, but I am updating since my life has changed so dramatically since I did the last one.

Cleaning is going to be the primary tab. This tab will have my daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning to-do lists. I will also put note here for our housekeepers who come bi-weekly.

I used to have a tab for my daily schedule, but that is no longer feasible because there is no consistency to my days anymore, so I will be taking that out.

I am going to add tabs for Mike, and Carter though. (I already have actual file folders for each of the foster kids.) Carter’s tab will hold things like a school calendar, bible verse of the month list, hot lunch list, chore list, etc. Mike’s will hold his school schedule (He is going back to school this fall.) and whatever else may be useful re: him.

I am also going to add tab for misc. lists…One list I will be adding to this is a Birthday/Address list. I currently don’t have one of these and I’d really like to since I’d like to start sending out cards and such. I will also have our basement inventory list (I number each box and put the contents of each box on a list so should I need to find something, I can easily reference which box the item is in without needing to go hunting.) I will also place a list here of the different fun places we like to go such as our favorite children’s museums, pumpkin patches, orchards, etc. along with their address and dates/times of operations. That way I can easily access the information I need to I know the best times to visit and also have the address handy to input to our GPS.

The last tab I am going to have is Financial. I am adding this because after nearly 9 years of being responsible of our financial situation…I am pretty much burnt out so I am going to try having Mike take over. I pay most of our bills online so I am going to keep our account access passwords here along with a general list of our typical monthly bills. At some point, we are going to set up an actual budget as well which will go here also.

Another change I’m going to make is to not use graphics on my divider pages. I’m going to use plain white separator tabs and will write in the tab names. I do have a really cute patterned binder that I got from Target that I will be keeping everything in. I just decided that I focus too much on “preparing” my binder than actually using it.
I will post pictures in the next few days of what it looks like.
