Morning with Carter

This morning I was laying in bed just after waking up. Carter came in and said very seriously…

Carter : “Mommy, I need 3 groups of people.”

Me : “Oh really?? What kind of groups?”

Carter : “I need 3 of them…My daddy because he can help fix my broken train…my grandma because she can help me clean my room…my grandpa because he can help me pick up all my toys in the playroom.”

So you may (or may not) be wondering where I have been for the last few days. Well, I have been watching Lost while lying in bed and allowing my husband to care for not only our children, but me as well. Now before you go jumping to conclusions regarding my moral fibers and values…I was sick. Not just an “Oh, I have a headache today.” or “I’m feeling faint.” type of sick either. It was a knock-down, kick your butt, make you wish you were on a tropical island (OK so THAT I wish for even when I’m not sick) kind of sick!!! I’m still not exactly sure what it is/was, but whatever it is/was did me in. I left my room for the first time tonight since Friday afternoon. I’m not sure I have ever ever done that. I’m still not close to 100%, but at least I can function above “near coma” level.

While preparing myself to come downstairs, I began worrying about the state of our house. I had not ventured outside of our bedroom let alone downstairs to our main living area. Now why would I be worried you wonder??? Well, my husband, along with 4 boys ages 5 and under were left down there for 3 days straight with no supervision (yes, Mike watched the kids, but does that really count as REAL supervision??). So I am preparing myself for the terror and shock of all that will be before me as I enter what has been the great unknown for 3 days!

As I walked down the stairs and the living room began to come into my line of sight, I realized that while I was watching Lost, I, too, would have been lost if it weren’t for my husband. I still cannot believe all that he has done. He waited on me hand and foot while I was sick (making me food, bring me whatever I asked, or just coming up to say “hi” and give me a kiss), but what I came downstairs to was a completely clean house!!! There is not even a dish in the sink!

So what I realized while watching seasons 2 and 3 of Lost (awesome show if you’ve never watched it) is that while I was “lost” on my proverbial island (aka upstairs in my bed) my husband made sure to take care of things until I got “home”. I would be lost without him.

Love you babe!!!

Well I think I mentioned last week that I was going to a Mary Kay conference this weekend and it was amazing!! Lisa Madsen, Allison LaMarr, and Sean Key were the speakers. It was awesome. It has totally renewed my spirit within Mary Kay. I really having been doing much with my business the last few months because we had foster kids and I was trying to “adjust”. The truth is, I was making excuses and I totally got that this weekend! My business is going to only go as far as I am willing to take it. I got a bunch of other great tidbits that I might share in the next few days. I think a lot of what was taught there would be beneficial to anyone’s life!!!!

Today I’m just working on getting the house clean after being gone overnight. Mike did a pretty good job considering he’s barely used to 2 kids let alone 4. At least the kitchen, was clean. I’m hoping to get a nap in today too. I was up until 3 a.m. organizing my Mary Kay office. I had a bunch of stuff to put away and needed to update my inventory numbers and update my sample case with all the new colors/products. I’m almost done with all that and tonight I’m going to my first unit success meeting in months. Its actually going to be with a new director. My director, Ann Jones, moved to Iowa this last weekend. I’m going to be adopted by Nancy Castro’s unit. She is AMAZING!!! I love her personality and, well, of course she’s makin’ some darn good money so she’s obviously working MK the right way!! She knows all the “Greats” in the MK industry and I just don’t feel like I will learn more from anyone else!!! I can’t wait!

So this weekend they challenged us to come up with a dream; not just any old dream either! We were supposed to dream so big that it seemed ridiculous and if we told our friends this dream, they would laugh at us! So here goes…here’s my dream:

My dream is to become financially free enough to support my family so that my husband can quit his job and pursue his dream of owning his own restaurant. By doing this, it will also allow my family to spend more time together and being financially free, we will have a peace in our home and in our lives that would be astounding. In order to do this, I want to move up in the company. One of my goals, is to be a director by Jan. 1, 2010. That gives me just over a year to get things done.

I’m hoping maybe I can meet with Nancy this week and we can formulate a plan on how I can get that done!

Well we have added two more kids to the mix tonight…a 3 year old and another 2 year old. That puts us at 4 boys ages 5 and under. I make myself tired just reading that. Not sure how things will be for the next couple of weeks that they are here, but I my internet time might be limited. They seem to be good kids so far…just the usual fighting over toys. I figure this is a good test though. If I can stay caught up with the housework, laundry (which is still totally caught up by the way!!), and homeschooling Carter, I should be able to make it through pretty much anything!!!

Tomorrow I’m off to a Mary Kay conference in Wisconsin Dells. I’ll be gone tomorrow at noon to Sunday at 3 or so. I’m leaving Mike with all the kids which I’m sure I will pay for when I get home with either a messy house, a grumpy husband, or both, but this is something I really need to go to and have already paid for.

Well, I’m off to get all the kids ready for bed so I’m off for tonight and maybe a few days depending on how things go. We’ll see…we all might be surprised!

Homeschooling Blog

Just thought I would share with all of you that I have started a blog for Carter to document our progress in Homeschooling. It’s pretty basic, but I wanted something to document some of his projects and such. If you’d care to visit you are welcome!

What a week!!!

Well, I promised an update so here it is.

First, I have decided to give up all control of our money and give it over to my husband. In the past, he’s been a little irresponsible with money, but it’s been several years and he says he is ready to take over and I’m more than ready to let him. I hate the stress of it all!!! Well one of the first things, he has started to do is to cut back. His hours have not been the greatest so money has been tight and quite honestly we have been stretching things to the limit so cutting down (which was probably a good idea regardless of his job situation) is the right thing to do. Sadly, one of the very first things to go was my cleaning service. Being that we typically have many many small kids it is sometimes hard for me to find time to do things like spot clean walls and baseboards, clean cupboard fronts, etc…all those things that really aren’t essential, but they need to be done (i’m a bit compulsive about cleaning, which is funny considering the messy person I’ve been for so long). So long story short, it means more work for me and less downtime (aka computer time).

Second, this week started a bit rough. On Monday, my garbage disposal broke..an hour later, Carter was helping me by vacuuming and got the curtain caught in the vacuum and destroyed the belt so the vacuum wouldn’t work, then literally an hour after that I went to the car (I was going to run to the store quick) and the battery was dead!!!!

So, on the plus side, my house is pretty clean, my laundry is caught up, homeschooling is going pretty well (I am in the process of switching to a different curriculum though), and I’m actually healthy!!! What are the odds???!!!
